Facilities

Here’s a short introduction to the facilities of my office

Library

I keep a library of books, journals and papers, including a collection of old text and reference books about architecture, history and building, on paper and in digital form. You can see many of my paper books in my online catalog. See some random books below.

Computers

I mostly use Windows computers. My main machine is a custom-built tower full of acronyms, with a pair of nicely calibrated and profiled Eizo monitors and a classic IBM buckling spring keyboard. Away from my desk, I use an X-series ThinkPad. I have Epson and Fuji-Xerox printers and Epson scanners. Everything is connected together with Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, FTTP and baling twine.

I depend on Microsoft Word and the other Office programs. Other staples include Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, Lightroom, PhotoShop and Dreamweaver.

My web and mail services are hosted by Digital Pacific in Sydney—a standard Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP setup. I use open source MovableType for website content management.

Cameras

I have renounced film cameras and gone over completely to digital capture. For serious work I mainly use Canon EOS full-frame DSLR cameras, with various lenses ranging from 16mm to 200mm. I also use Fujifilm X-series cameras when I want a more compact kit.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II with 17-40mm lens
